Private Sailing and Boating Instruction

We provide instruction for individuals or groups, for all levels of sailing and boat handling on your own boat. The hourly rate is $35 per hour. Additionally, if you don't currently own a boat, boats can be rented through local sailing schools. We teach to the highest standards, with safety and having fun as primary goals and use a variety of teaching methods including chalk talks, demonstration, hands-on, practice and skill testing. Please note that American Sailing Association (ASA) certification is only available through an ASA Affiliate School. 

Instruction Services for Sailing Schools and Yacht Clubs

Craig is currently the head instructor at Tradewinds Sailing School located in Point Richmond, CA. This school is an affiliate of the American Sailing Association (ASA) and offers sailing instruction at all ASA levels from Basic Keelboat through Advanced Coastal Cruising and Offshore Passagemaking. Craig specializes in navigation instruction including both coastal and celestial navigation. He is also available on a substitute basis for other San Francisco Bay Area schools or to set up customized programs for your yacht club.

Instructor Qualification Clinics

Do you want to teach sailing? Or, are you affiliated with a school that would like to get more instructors certified? Sailing schools teach to a variety of standards. Throughout the United States and in many other countries, the predominant and most recognized standard is set by the American Sailing Association (ASA). Craig is an Instructor Evaluator, certified by the ASA. For ASA sailing schools or groups of instructor candidates,  Craig is able to conduct Instructor Qualification Clinics, qualifying instructor candidates for teaching to ASA standards. These clinics are not meant to 'teach' people how to teach sailing but are intended to qualify existing teachers using the ASA standards. Contact us for further details.
